Bollywood actor Urvashi Rautela’s eye-catching sartorial choices at the Cannes Film Festival 2023 have been making headlines. However, her choice of a magnificent crocodile necklace designed by Cartier was mocked on social media platforms.
In her first appearance at Cannes, Urvashi wore a vibrant pink gown and an exquisite necklace shaped in the form of intertwining crocodiles from Cartier, which caught the attention of the paparazzi. However, a few netizens went on to make fun of the bizarre necklace, labelling it as lizards around her neck.
The Iconic Crocodile Necklace
But little did people know that the iconic crocodile necklace is one of the most prized pieces of high jewellery by Cartier, crafted in 1975.
Here are some interesting facts about the spectacular necklace:
- The necklace features two crocodiles.
- The first crocodile was made with 18-karat yellow gold and had more than 1,000 brilliant-cut fancy intense yellow diamonds, which weighed around 60.02 carats.
- The second crocodile was sculpted with 18-karat white gold and had 1,060 emeralds of 66.86 carats.
Response From Urvashi Rautela
In an interview with Bruno Abarca from Brut India, Urvashi said, “People, who don’t have the right information, those are the people who are writing bizarre comments about it (her necklace). But people, who know about the history of that jewelry, it is such an iconic piece, they will absolutely fall in love with the crocodile neckpiece.”
Urvashi further added, “Actually, it is a very iconic piece…You actually have to read about it, it is very historic. In fact, I wasn’t aware of this, but I got to know that it was worn by Monica Bellucci back in 2006 at Cannes. I had absolutely no idea about it.”
Urvashi’s Upcoming Projects
Besides her appearance at Cannes, Urvashi has signed a Hollywood movie with actor Michele Morrone and will also be seen in Inspector Avinash with Randeep Hooda.
Urvashi Rautela’s statement necklace at Cannes 2023 was not just a fashion statement but a piece of art that has been cherished for centuries.
